Made for Chhath. A bright yellow dupatta with the whole ghat scene painted by hand: women standing in the river, hands folded, offering arghya to Surya Dev, with banana plants, sugarcane and a basket of fruit around them.
It is painted in the Madhubani style of Mithila, Bihar, with bold black outlines, fine line-work for the water and a red and green border running down both sides. Lotus motifs are scattered across the body, and yellow tassels finish the ends. The painted scene sits at one end, so it drapes beautifully over the shoulder or across the arm.
Wear it with: a plain kurta or saree for Chhath Puja, Surya Shashthi and other festive days. It also makes a lovely Chhath gift for mothers, sisters and daughters-in-law.
- Fabric: soft, breathable cotton linen blend
- Work: hand painted Madhubani art, Chhath arghya scene, Surya and lotus motifs
- Colour: yellow with red, green, blue and orange
- Finish: yellow tassels at both ends
- Occasions: Chhath Puja, festivals, gifting
- Care: gentle hand wash separately in cold water, do not scrub the painted areas, dry in shade and iron on low heat from the reverse side.
Every piece is painted by hand, so small differences in the painting and shades from the photos are natural.
